A pneumatic cylinder (vérin pneumatique) or air cylinder is a tool that switches the power of compressed air to mechanical energy. This energy is then used by the system for generating rotating or linear motion. So, the cylinder takes the role of actuator in the pneumatic systems. These cylinders usually comprise of a steel piston, cylinder container, piston rod and also include end covers.
When compressed air makes its way through the cylinder, it goes to piston along length of air cylinder. A coil or compressed air, present at cylinder’s rod end, works to move piston back. Valves are used for controlling compressed air flow through the cylinder.
The manufacturers of steel pneumatic cylinder (vérin pneumatique acier) usually produce two types of pneumatic cylinders i.e. single acting cylinders and double acting cylinders. The former has the capability of performing its activities in just one direction while the latter carries powered motion in two directions. Single acting cylinders have air pressure just on one side of piston flange as they deliver force as well as motion. Return power is delivered by a coil when force is released. The double acting cylinders, on the other hand, have pressure on either side. Pressing the cylinder in just one direction causes the compressed air to move it in another direction.
A stainless steel pneumatic cylinder (vérin pneumatique inox) system can generate huge linear pressure. The system comprises of input, output and a course in between. Here, the compressed air coming from hand pump or compressor takes the role of input. Some controlled device that sends the air to bottom of container or bar end acts as the course. And, the output generated as a result is the withdrawing or expanding piston rod. These systems are usually used for moving, pulling or lifting purposes. They can also be used in holding and placing pieces or materials in manufacturing process.
